Paddy Breathnach (born 1964, Dublin, Ireland) is an award-winning Irish film director and producer. He directed Man About Dog, Blow Dry and Shrooms. He was also involved in the production of The Mighty Celt.
He has received awards at the Thessaloniki Film Festival, the San Sebastián International Film Festival and the Bogotá Film Festival.
I have done research on this director because he directed the film "Shrooms" and my film is very similar to the way he made his. The Psychological element that he added is something my film will will try to reattempt.
He was able to shoot his film with a limited number of locations which is what I am aiming to do. Paddy Breathnatch is a low budget film director, however he is now an acclaimed director.

Notes on Horror
Horror tries to obtain a negative emotional reaction from the readers/viewers by using the audience's primal fears. Horrors also frequently overlap with the thriller genre. IT was after "Dracula" and "frakenstein both in 1931 the the term horror film appeared.
. Horror films deal with the viewer's nightmares, hidden worst fears and of the unknown. When some films contain a plot about morbidity, serial killers, a disease/virus outbreak and surrealism, they may be called "horror".
stories written often involve an evil force, event, or character, usually of supernatural origin, into the everyday world. Themes or elements that often occur in typical horror films include ghosts, torture, gore, werewolves, ancient curses, satanism, demons, vicious animals, vampires, cannibals, haunted houses, zombies and serial killers. However, stories of the supernatural are not necessarily always a horror movie as well.

Shrooms
My new idea for my movie trailer is based on the storyline of shrooms with a nuance. I have my actors and they will go into the woods. There they will do drugs and paranoia will kick in. They start seeing monsters and try to kill them. Not realising that the monsters are actually their friends. I have planned the shooting scenes in the woods so i will be following the conventions of my model film: shrooms.
There are different location shots like my trailer. Most of the shots will be in the woods but i have a range of locations to shoot.

New Synopsis for Horror
James is a troubled teenager who deals with the burdens of life by using drugs with friends. When he obtains this new drug and goes up to the woods he is expecting a fun weekend out but could not foresee the events that were about to occur.
Original Synopsis for Comedy
Film Synopsis
The story unfolds as a young teenager who has a pretty awkward relationship with his father after his mum passed away. He is struggling to get the required grades to finish school so his father decides to send him to the army. However this young man comes up with a series of ruses to convince his father not to go, he gets help from his best friend who lives next door but fail to come up with anything convincing. Their failed attempts get funnier by the minute and as an audience we can’t wait for their next stratagem.
Change of Genre - Trailer Analysis
My original idea was to use comedy as the genre of my trailer. However i have now decided to change to horror as it would allow me to use more of the conventions. My horror movie would adopt most aspects from films like Blair witch Project, The Grudge and I Spit On Your Grave.
Trailer Analysis: Conventions i would use for my trailer
Blair witch Project- Most of the shots are handheld making the trailer more realistic and colloquial. Also one of my settings would be located in the woods of St. Helen's where the eerie atmosphere would contribute towards the Gothic conventions of my trailer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_Hw4bAUj8A
The Grudge- The convention that I am planning on adopting is the way the inter titles are used. There is a high tempo that adds suspense and allows more time for the titles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj88_yqlFMA
I Spit On Your Grave- This trailer has a voiceover throughout and I would adopt this for my one aswell. It makes it more dramatic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3zDSzULMqM

Trailer Research - Broken Lines
The conventions of this trailer that I want to use for my trailer is the high tempo it uses. Also The intertitles are well placed and I would like to use mine at the same places. At the beginning of the trailer to add suspense and set the scene. Broken Lines' trailer also has fast editing and it is what I'm aiming to do. The sound use is quite like what I am aimning to achieve, meaning i would like dialogue to intercut with the breaks of soundtrack.

Let The Right One In
Let The Right One In is about Oskar, a 12 year old boy who is bullied everyday. He builds up the courage to face these bullies only once he meets Eli, a peculiar girl who helps him gain enough confidence to face them turns out to be a vampire. Even though Eli is a vampire, her and Oskar manage to build a relationship.
This film was made in 2008, it was set in the Swedish suburb of Blackeberg in 1982. It won several awards including a nopmintion for a BAFTA award.
Ths movie doesn't follow the conventions of a normal horror movie although there is enough evidence to lead the audience to think it is a horror although it juggles between the sub-genres of a love story and also high school genres. A lot of horror movies now cast children as their main protagonists.
This movie would be easily replicated as the cast would be easy to find as their aren't many actors. The setting isn't too fancy and although it is set in the snow it would be repeatable in the woods and in a school.
Let The Right One In is very different to our more mainstream horror movies as it is more slow paced it is likely to appeal to a niche audience as they would be more critical to this movies approach to horror. The character however is part of the new horror era as films such as The Ring, The Grudge, Insidious all star children as their main protagonists.
